Can I come to the group if I am seeing a Speech Pathologist for Individual sessions?
This group would be a great addition to your child's therapy. It focuses on parents and carers learning key skills needed to support development at home. It also gives children the chance to start to develop some skills with their peers. Parent will get the chance to talk to others who may also be accessing Speech Pathology services elsewhere. We would be keen to work with your other Speech Pathologist to ensure we are focusing on the same areas to give the best outcomes for your child.
Can I speak to the Speech Pathologist for individual advice?
The group offers time for each family to speak with the Speech Pathologist on a 1:1 basis to give individual strategies as well as whole group strategies. There will also be time at the end of each group to ask questions or raise concerns.
What therapy approach is used within the sessions?
We will be using techniques and strategies taken from a range of programmes and these will be adapted to the needs of the group. We will use primarily strategies taken from the Parent Child Interaction approach which uses evidence based techniques proven to support communication development.
Do I have to come to the group every week?
We are flexible in how we work as we know family life can get very busy. You can, of course, attend when possible. However, research shows that attending a group weekly, like this one, gives the best results so we would recommend this wherever possible.
